A message from Paul

“I was so surprised but very grateful to receive the voucher from the club.  It will be well spent, and I shall drink to the clubs health when I do make the restaurant reservation very soon!

During my 11 plus years at Lee Valley, I was blessed to be working close to and alongside members of the hockey community. As you may have known, I too have always been an active hockey player and umpire. So, I really appreciated the hard work and kindness shown by the various club volunteers. At Wapping the club officers have been unfailingly kind and friendly, and this alone made my working day so much easier and a pleasure, at least when dealing with the hockey clubs!

I must add that over the years I have met hundreds of Wapping club members, and all of which took the time to smile, say hello and let me interfere as necessary with their hockey day.  I will miss these interactions immensely, but I do look forward to meeting many of those involved again in the future, perhaps as an umpire or maybe here at Old Loughtonians where I now work.

Good luck to the club, to which I wish every success in the future” - Paul Warwick-Munday, LV 🫅

Kit Amnesty

As the season comes to a close, please take a moment to check any places where club kit may be lurking for items like shirts, balls, cones, masks, and bibs.

Please ensure all equipment is returned to the lockers by the end of the season, as teams will be charged for any missing items—including training kit—so it’s important we recover as much as possible by the end of March.

Please also remember:

  • Adidas shirts from last season must be returned. They’re club assets that are needed for non-league games and shouldn’t be kept for personal use.

  • Now the larger Grays shirts have arrived, Adidas shirts should not be worn in league matches, in line with our agreement with Grays Hockey.

Appreciate your support with this 🫶

thoughts on the season? We want to hear them 👀

Click the link here to complete this season’s feedback questionnaire. Whether it’s shoutouts or suggestions, your views on coaching and training really matter—so please take a few minutes to fill in as much as you can. It’s all anonymous, so be honest!

And remember—change doesn’t happen over a post-match pint 🍻, it happens here. Your feedback goes straight to the Exec and plays a big role in shaping next season, so don’t miss your chance to have your say.

Opportunities to Get Involved

We’re looking for new faces to join the Exec and help shape the club for next season—could it be you?

There are several roles opening up:

  • Chair

  • Women’s Club Captain (co-role, alongside Anna)

  • Men’s Club Captain (co-role, alongside Aaran)

  • Club Secretary

  • Fixtures Secretary

  • Head of Press

You’ll be fully supported with handovers and guidance, making it a great opportunity to get involved, build experience, and meet more people across the club.

If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved, have a chat with a current Exec member or reach out to Irini (wappingsecretary@gmail.com) to find out more!

CAWHL is just around the corner

Make sure you’ve signed up to join a Wapping team (deadline 6th April) and consider volunteering to help the league run. We’re still looking for:

  • 2 × Wapping team captains (co-captains welcome!)

  • 6-a-side tournament & BBQ organiser

Fancy getting stuck in or want to know more? Drop an email to cityandwharfhockeyleague@gmail.com or WhatsApp James on 07401 227298 🙌

Here is some guidance on taking part in the league

LV summer leagues

As with previous years, we will be entering a number of teams into the Lee Valley hockey summer leagues. There are men’s and women’s leagues, with teams made up of players from across the club—whoever is available each week.

The games are relaxed, social, and a great opportunity to play alongside different teammates and get to know more people around the club. Whether you're looking to keep your hockey going over the summer or just fancy a fun run-out, it's a fantastic way to stay involved.

Captains will be notified shortly with details on how to get involved, so keep an eye on the WhatsApp groups for more information.

Kidds Sunday Sessions 🌞

This summer, we’re switching things up! Our Kidds sessions will be moving to Sundays (from Fridays and Saturdays) as part of a trial - starting the 26th April.

We’re lucky to have an incredible team of dedicated coaches already, but we’re hoping this change opens the door for even more of you to get involved—especially if weekday evenings or Saturday mornings haven’t worked for you before. It’s loads of fun and the juniors love learning from players competing at a higher level, so if you’ve ever thought about giving coaching a go, now’s your chance!

Sessions will run from a very civilised 10am–2pm, starting with the younger groups and finishing with the older juniors. Please email Sandy and Amy for info on how to get involved.

As a bonus, this frees up some Saturday morning pitch time—perfect for organising friendly matches. If you’re keen to set something up, get in touch with Eleanor at wappingfixtures@gmail.com 🙌
